Be honest: Did you think Porsha Williams’s divorce from Kordell Stewart dragged on for so long because she wasn’t getting anything from him? We certainly thought so, and Kordell definitely hinted at that in his chat with Peter Thomas. But according to the Real Housewives of Atlanta star, she never wanted anything from her former NFL player ex.
Porsha stopped by Bethenny this week to promote her newest projects — i.e. that killer single, “Flatline”! — and Ms. Frankel got down to what we’ve all been wondering about: that divorce settlement (and Porsha supposedly walking away empty-handed).
“I didn’t ask for anything,” Porsha revealed. “Right now in the press it’s, 'Porsha didn’t get anything, poor Porsha,’ and people are feeling bad for me and feeling sorry for me because I didn’t get anything, and they think that we went to trial and I lost.” We’re totally guilty of thinking that!
In fact, the two never even went to court, she explained. They were scheduled to, but Porsha decided to opt out of continuing the tense proceedings.
“What happened was, it just tore me apart this divorce, it really did,” Porsha shared with fellow recent divorcee Bethenny. “It was so traumatic and it ruled over my life … I wanted the freedom to be done with it. So before we had court the next week — we were scheduled to go to court and me plead my side and he plead his side — I told my attorney, ‘Listen, I am done with this. Get the divorce decree, I am coming to sign it.’”
But there was one stipulation: The 32-year-old was hoping Kordell could contribute to her medical expenses (likely from when the two were trying to have a child).
“I said the only thing I want him to do is pay for my hospital bills because I didn’t have insurance,” Porsha admitted. “He didn’t have insurance on me or his son.” Huh?!
Bethenny was equally as confused. “Why didn’t he have insurance when he’s an NFL football player?” she asked, continuing, “You have an 8,000 square foot house and you have no insurance?”
“You have to ask him,” Porsha responded. “But he didn’t have insurance on his wife or his son … Listen, I had insurance on myself after the divorce but the debt we had was for insurance. Remember, I wasn’t working … That’s what I wanted him to pay. That’s all I asked him to do... and I got my car. Yeah and he did that. I am good. I have health insurance now.”
Wow, what a confusing (and sketchy?) financial situation. We’re glad Porsha’s out of that mess now — and we’re sure she’s glad, too! Gotta have your own, girl.
