At last weekend’s TVD PaleyFest panel, Paul revealed the awesome gift that Nina gave him in support of his directorial debut for Season 5, Episode 18 (“Resident Evil”). According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paul recounted the event: "My first day of directing, I walk into my dressing room and there's a wrapped gift," he said, adding that there was a letter from Nina congratulating him on the “next phase” of his career. He unwrapped the present to find… "A giant portrait of Nina Dobrev. It was huge and now it's hanging in my dressing room." Ha!
One fan took initiative presumably after hearing this anecdote, and asked Paul to share a photo of the portrait on Mobio Insider — and he did! The piece of art is indeed giant, featuring Nina staring straight out at the viewer. Classic!
Nina’s gag was actually kind of perfect for Paul, given that the actor has his own image hanging in his former co-star’s dressing room. We’re talking about The Originals’ Daniel Gillies (Elijah Mikaelson). Last year, Paul offered fans a peek inside of Daniel’s dressing room (or, at least what he claimed to be Daniel’s dressing room), complete with cardboard cutout of Paul as Stefan. Karma’s a...actually, it’s not that bad in this case. Who wouldn’t want a giant portrait of Nina Dobrev?
What do you think of Paul’s portrait of Nina? Do you think he should keep it? Sound off in the comments below!
