TLC Creator Pebbles Threatens Legal Action Over CrazySexyCool Biopic
We can't stop raving about CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story, VH1's original movie documenting TLC's rise to fame. Not only did the film bring back grade school memories of working tirelessly to memorize the "Waterfalls" rap, but it also shed new light on the struggles T-Boz, Left Eye, and Chilli faced behind the scenes. But not everyone was pleased with the made-for-TV biopic, namely Perri "Pebbles" Reid, founder of the girl group and ex-wife of music mogul L.A. Reid.
In the film, Pebbles (played by actress Rochelle Aytes)gets pinned for all of TLC's financial problems — the trio filed for bankruptcy in 1995, despite being one of the top-selling groups of all time — and she's none too pleased about it. In fact, the 46-year-old producer plans to tell her side of the story, writing in a statement on Twitter that "it's time the truth comes out."
Not only is Pebbles planning to break her silence after 20 years, but she's also demanding a retraction from VH1 for the "false" and "defamatory" statements and scenes about her in the movie.
"Please know that I have never cheated or mislead anyone," she continues. "I will defend my reputation, accomplishments and character."
Unfortunately, it seems like the damage is done — with T-Boz and Chilli sticking by their story. "I don't have any problems with her," Chilli told Us Weekly. "This story is from our perspective … And we did not lie … we told the truth, and that's how our experience was with her. That's how it was."
"We've always been open and honest about how much she's done for us and the things she did give us," T-Boz continued. "Throughout relationships, whether it's mother, daughter, father, son, friends, whomever, you'll have ups and downs, and you'll disagree, and you won't like everything that everybody does. And some people can't take people moving on and they can't take change. I don't think [Pebbles has] ever gotten over the whole breakup of TLC."
Sounds like the beginning of another messy legal battle. Sigh … where's Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes when you need her? RIP, girl.
