Pregnant Kate Middleton: Who Was in the Delivery Room?

The British Crown is notoriously laden with the heavy blanket of tradition and the birth of a royal baby is one event in which there are some strict, age-old rules. However, the rule dictating who was allowed in Kate Middleton’s delivery room was slightly bent for this year's most popular royal birth.

The birth to the third in line for the British throne was the first in which the father of the child — Prince William — was present. Wills accompanied his 9-month pregnant wife in a car to St. Mary's Hospital late last night, according to Clarence House, when Kate began to labor naturally. Before deciding to take paternity leave, William being the first royal father-to-be to ever take this kind of leave of absence, the Prince of Wales was deployed with the Royal Air Force as a helicopter rescue pilot. His decision to be with his wife in the days leading up to her delivery certainly paid off if only for the reason that he did not have to make a quick getaway from his job and fly home just in time for the birth.

Other guests in the delivery room were thought to include Kate’s sister Pippa and her mother Carole Middleton, but a report from NBC News via Us Weekly indicates that, sadly, neither of the women were there. Prince William was the rule breaker of the day as he was the first royal father-to-be to accompany his wife into the delivery room. Clarence House did note that the Wills was present for the birth of his child.

Her Royal Highness the Queen Of England was not at the hospital for the birth and will reportedly not even visit the couple at St. Mary's, according to People. More likely the baby will be brought to meet his or her great grandmother The Queen in the coming weeks.
