Update (January 3, 2014):
Okay Bachelor Nation, here’s the deal: There are going to be two nights of Bachelor Juan Pablo Galavis fun starting this Sunday, January 5. The first evening will be a countdown to JPG including details all about his life (like we don't already know everything) and a few of those rumored Chris Harrison house calls we first heard about last fall. That’ll run 8 to 9 p.m. on ABC this Sunday.
Then, the very next night we’ll be back to Bachelor as usual, not that there’s anything usual about this year’s stud. We’ll still get the limo entrances and background blurbs about each girl as well as all the champagne-fueled cocktail hour festivities a true citizen of Bachelor Nation could hope for. That rosy installment starts Monday, January 6, and runs 8 to 10 p.m.
Phew. Glad we got that sorted. Now time to plan our outfits.
Original story (November 2013):
Ladies and gentlemen, it’s finally here! After months of waiting, the Bachelor season devoted to all things Juan Pablo Galavis is about to begin. Consider yourselves totally booked this weekend for the nights of Sunday, January 5, and Monday, January 6. Those are the two evenings ABC has devoted to reminding America why we love Bachelor JPG. (As if we needed reminding, what with a life-sized poster of the sexy fella pinned to our bedroom wall.)
But before you start stocking up on twice as many wine coolers (we already did), Reality Steve cautioned that two nights might not mean double the action, even with Juan Pablo at the helm of the SS Bachelor.
“I really don’t think they are airing any of episode 1 on Sunday night,” he writes. Rather, Steve thinks Sunday night’s episode will mainly feature throwaway footage of host Chris Harrison shooting the breeze with Juan Pablo and perhaps “a retrospective of past Bachelor seasons.”
Indeed, he answered his (and our) own question soon after, letting the world know that via some sly intel, he found out what’s happening. “They’re going to use that night to introduce America to a lot of his women by showing their intro videos,” Steve explained. “In a regular season, they would just set aside a 10-minute segment in the first episode to show about eight or nine of the women. But since they decided to go with the two-night premiere this time around, they are using Sunday night to dedicate a whole show show to get to know the women better.
“Also, apparently Chris Harrison showed up at a few of the women’s doors to personally surprise them and give them a rose to tell them they were on the show, and we’ll be seeing that footage as well.”
Whatever other surprises ABC may have in store, you know we’ll be tuning in, wine cooler in hand. Who could say no to twice as much time with Sir Christopher H.?
Strangely, as of this update, nearly a month after we first heard about the news, ABC still hadn’t released a word about the two-night thing. In fact, a tweet on November 19 only mentioned the January 6 date. Unless they’ve changed their mind about the two-nighter, we highly recommend they let ladies know that this is happening. You know, in case they have to wash their hair that night (as if). And if they did change their minds, that'll give us time to put together our own Bachelor retrospective to fill the time the night before the big day...
Take time and smell the roses (we think) on Sunday, January 5, at 8 p.m. on ABC, and for sure watch the official first night on January 6.
