The Most Pointless \'Pretty Little Liars\' Characters Ever

Pretty Little Liars has had its share of pointless characters over the years. On a show that has seen so many folks drift in and out of the narrative, some pointlessness was inevitable. Here are the worst offenders — ever.

Talia

Talia

We suppose Talia helped Emily (Shay Mitchell) realize, even if she still loves Paige (Lindsey Shaw), she doesn’t have to put her love life on hold. Also, there was that time she tried to blackmail a beauty pageant judge into giving Emily money. But, on the whole, Talia was kind of a useless character.

Tom Marin

Tom served a purpose in that he got called out by Hanna (Ashley Benson) for being a terrible dad most of her life, but being useful because you have been (mostly) useless to your daughter kind of cancels itself out, right?

Remember Jake? Yeah, he was super hot. And he taught Aria (Lucy Hale) some self defense, which should be a thing everyone in Rosewood is practicing constantly. Other than that, he serves no purpose — mostly because he flitted in and out of the narrative faster than we could say, “There’s something suspicious about the boy next door.”

Lorenzo Calderon

So far, this presumably 20-something police officer engaged in an inappropriate relationship with Alison (Sasha Pieterse), aka the teenaged girl he was tasked with protecting, been an incompetent police officer with Toby(Keegan Allen), and then vanished from Rosewood. He did leave his I.D. badge around, allowing Ali to steal it and sneak into the Rosewood P.D. So, that was useful?

Sydney Driscoll

Sydney was an intriguing character for a hot minute. She befriended Emily and Paige under the guise of looking for swimming help, only to be later revealed as a compatriot of Jenna’s. Which is bad, we guess? A sure-fire sign of a useless character is one whose allegiances you’re not really sure about, but are too lazy to figure out, even after she randomly popped up in the murdery Season 7 summer finale.

Jonny Raymond

Jonny Raymond

Out of all of the characters on this list, Jonny has got to be the most useless — or at least the most annoying. He hung around for a short character arc last season that mostly consisted of pretending to be cooler than Spencer (Troian Bellisario) (even though we know Spencer is cooler than everyone and especially Jonny) and eating things he may or may not have purchased out of the Hastings family fridge. The worst.
