Pretty Little Liars Season 3 was rather rocky for our favorite tortured romancers, Spencer (Troian Bellisario) and Toby (Keegan Allen). What can be expect from Spoby in Season 4? Read on to find out!

Spoby Starts Off Strong

Whatever may be in store for these two, it looks like they are going to start the season off strong, according to Keegan Allen. However, that doesn’t mean Spoby won’t have their issues to deal with: “However, whereas the last few seasons featured Spencer dealing with issues concerning her family and Toby joining the A team, Season 4 has to do with Toby’s past and Spencer is his rock, the person he leans on throughout his ordeal. It’s honestly heavy, troubling material.” As long as these two are together, we can take whatever PLL throws at us!

Investigating the Fire

In Season 4, Episode 1: “‘A’ is For A-L-I-V-E “, we know Spoby will be together investigating the lodge fire that almost took out Hanna, Emily, Aria, and Mona. Check out this sneak peek that has Spencer and Toby looking around the charred remains of the Thornhill Lodge. We do love it when these two team up to solve a mystery!

Ravenswood Field Trip

We also know that Spencer and Toby will be the first PLL characters to venture to Ravenswood, the setting of the PLL spin-off. Could their trip there be part of their search for “A” answers? The visit will happen in Season 4, Episode 6: “Under the Gun,” and will introduce Mrs. Grundwald, a future recurring character on Ravenswood.

Can Spence Trust Toby?

Though the PLL Powers That Be have confirmed that Toby was telling the truth when he said he joined the “A” Team to keep Spence safe, that doesn’t necessarily mean we can trust him. Producer Oliver Goldstick revealed that Toby would be “sucked back into the vortex of ‘A’” in Season 4. Apparently, “A” knows “something about Toby's past that is going to be emotionally wrenching and is going to pull him back where he doesn't want to be and doesn't have a choice.” Yikes! Maybe that’s what writer Bryan Holdman was alluding to when he said that Season 4 Spoby would be “like S3 Spoby...but different.”

Wrencer Interference

And we can’t forget about Dr. Wren, who was seen helping Spence try to work through Toby’s betrayal in Season 3. He certainly shares a strong emotional connection with Spencer. PLL writer Maya Goldsmith said about a Wrencer romance in the future: "All I know is what when it comes to PLL, never say never ;)" Toby better watch his back!
