We were seriously creeped out by the mask-making scene on the most recent episode of Pretty Little Liars. Did Shay Mitchell (Emily), Sasha Pieterse (Alison), and Torrey DeVitto (Melissa) really have to model for the masks used in Season 4, Episode 3: “Cat’s Cradle”?

Yes,” tweeted PLL showrunner Marlene King. It turns out the actors sat to have their lovely features cast in clay. We have to give this show (and its actors) credit: it fully commits to its storylines even the messy ones. In a series that continually asks us to suspend disbelief to follow its characters to sometimes bizarre places, we appreciate that.

On a related now, were we the only ones who didn’t instantly recognize Ali and Melissa’s likenesses in the masks cast of their faces? Maybe it’s an angle thing, but if we were in Hanna’s position we’re not sure if we would have been able to pick Melissa’s face off of the shelf of countless creepy masks in the mask-maker's dark back room. Knowing the masks were really created from the actors’ faces makes us think it might be easier to recognize the distinctive profiles in real life.

What did you think of this mask-making revelation? Are you impressed that the actors lent their faces for the process? Let us know in the comments below!
