Pretty Little Liars is a twisty show that's so full of mysteries and shocks that it not only encourages but practically requires intense, creative thinking from its fans. If you're not digging into every clue and approaching each mystery from every possible angle, you miss out on half the fun.
With so much speculation bouncing around the internet each week, there are always a thousand interesting theories to read about. Some are fairly straightforward and seem pretty likely, while others are way more outside the box — and even cooler for it. These are the ideas that might seem a little too out there to actually be right, but that doesn't mean we don't love them. Plus, in Rosewood, nothing is totally off the table; there's no such this as impossible
Each week, Wetpaint will be highlighting a different fascinating fan theory that sheds new light on the show. This week let's talk about the increasingly popular theory that "A" is none other than Mrs. DiLaurentis — or that, at the very least, she's part of the "A" team.
Huh? You ask. Ali's mom as "A"? No way! Well, once you start digging into the evidence, this theory doesn't seem quite as random as it does on first glance.
She's definitely off balance. There's no question that Mrs. DiLaurentis takes mourning for her daughter to a whole new level. Sure, her creepy obsession with Ali (keeping her room exactly as it was, etc.) could just be the symptoms of a mother's broken heart, but what if it goes further than that? Could she be donning a mask of her daughter's face while running around terrorizing her friends? We wouldn't put it past her. Alternatively, if Ali is Red Coat, it's believable that her mother would join her team and do whatever she said; even in the flashback, Ms. DiLaurentis clearly had a hard time controlling her daughter.
Plus, let's not forget the fact that Toby's mom's doctor remembered having an appointment with Mrs. D at Radley. Sure, she claimed that was just because of the trick CeCe pulled, but this show has lying right there in the title. Just because she said it doesn't make it true.
Knitting! The clue that really set the internet ablaze this week was the knitting needle "A" used to stab the Mona doll during the tag at the end of Season 4, Episode 11. In the tag, we see "A" knitting before getting his/her stabbity on — and just the week before, in Episode 10, there was a scene that drew attention to the fact that Mrs. DiLaurentis was knitting. Coincidence? Such a thing rarely exists in Rosewood.
She's been around since the beginning. Fans have also noted that Mrs. D has technically been around since the show's pilot. Sure, she wasn't actually on screen most of that time, but the character has always been a part of the show, which makes her a more likely candidate.
What do you think of this theory: Totally crazy, or potentially true? Would you like to see Ms. D as part of the "A" team, or is her character not important enough to warrant that role? Sound off in the comments below.
