Okay. We all freaked when Pretty Little Liars’ Season 4 summer finale revealed that Ezra (Ian Harding) is “A” — and has been all along! But once the shock of the episode began to wear off, we got to thinking. Hasn’t PLL done this before?

In the Season 3 finale, we were all convinced that Toby (Keegan Allen) was “A,” and then it turned out that he wasn’t. Sure, Toby was on the “A” team, but he had his reasons. And ultimately, he didn’t turn out to be evil at all.

So is PLL planning to take a similar approach with Ezra? If so, this whole “Ezra Is “A”” reveal might simply be one big red herring. Just like Toby before him, Ezra might not be evil after all.

Yeah, not so much. On August 28, Pretty Little Liars executive producer Oliver Goldstick told TV Line on now uncertain terms that the ezrA situation is NOT just another Toby 2.0. He even used the words, “I promise.”

“I assure you that there is something going on here with Ezra,” Oliver says. “There is something very real going on here. I can’t give you too much information, but I can tell you it plays out quite beautifully in Season 4B. And Aria’s in danger — well, they all are, but Aria in particular.”

But instead of offering answers about just why Aria is suddenly so at risk, Oliver only offered more warnings.

“Yes, there is something that is about to be exposed and revealed in [the second half of Season 4 this January]. I guess what I’m saying is that this is going to escalate and be more explosive and mind-blowing.”

Even more mind-blowing? We’re not sure how that’s even possible.
