The Pretty Little Liars Powers That Be are fond of saying that everyone is an “A” suspect on PLL. That includes the Liars themselves. The PLL fanbase has a persistent theory that Aria is “A,” but we have our eye on a different Liar. Here are five reasons Spencer (Troian Bellisario) could be “A.”

She’s got the skills

Fact: Spencer is always ten steps ahead of everyone else on PLL. If anyone could pull off “A”’s game of tricks and simultaneously fake an entire life as “A”’s target, it’s Spencer. She’s that smart. She is also athletic, daring, and determined. If Spence had a seemingly logical reason for being “A,” we can’t think of anything or anyone who could stop her.

She’s got the dough

As clever as “A” is, there’s no way she could pull all of this off without access to a considerable amount of money. That lair alone must have cost tens of thousands of dollars. And, it’s no secret the Hastings are well-off (just as Emily). Could the Hastings family be unknowingly bankrolling the “A” Team?

She disappeared the night of Ali’s “murder”

It’s been a long time since the pilot episode flashback that shows the Liars the night of Ali’s disappearance, so let us refresh your memory. The Liars were all sleeping over at the Hastings. Aria wakes up in the middle of the night to find Spencer and Ali gone. Spencer comes back; Ali doesn’t. Technically, Spencer doesn’t have an alibi for the night of Ali’s murder.

She’s demonstrated that she’s morally flexible

Last season, Spence kidnapped a seven-year-old as her job interview for the “A” Team. Plus, she, you know, joined the “A” Team. Sure, she was in an emotionally raw place what with the seeming death of her One True Love (aka Pretty Eyes), but who knows what kinds of shenanigans she could have gotten up to in her short stint as “A” Teamer.

She wasn’t in the lodge during the fire

Melissa claims it was Wilden who started the Thornhill Lodge Fire, leaving the Liars + Mona to almost certain death (until Red Coat intervened). However, we trust Melissa about as far as we can throw her. Much like the night of Ali’s murder, Spencer was separated from the rest of the Liars giving her a degree of unaccountability and only fueling our suspicions. Could Spencer have been the one who started the lodge fire?
