If you thought all the twist, turns, and shocking reveals during Pretty Little Liars’ Season 4 summer finale were intense, just wait until you watch the rest of the season! When uninterrupted episodes return in January 2014, the drama won’t slow down.
“We're back! #PLL” showrunner Marlene King announced on Instagram earlier this week, signaling the end of Pretty Little Liars’ short filing hiatus. The cast has returned to work, and things are about to get very intense.
In particular, Season 4, Episode 19: “Shadow Play” — which should air sometime in late February or early March — sounds like it will blow everyone’s minds.
Details are being kept under wraps for now, but ABC Family executive Jenn Gerstenblatt was on set September 10 and tweeted, “#PLL blew me away today. To all involved, you know what I'm talking about - amazing!”
So, we have no idea what she’s talking about... but you can consider us sufficiently intrigued.
Here’s what we do know: Writer Joseph Dougherty has revealed that the episode will be almost entirely in black and white, sort of a reverse Wizard of Oz. Joseph also tweeted that Pretty Little Liars is filming on the same stage where the 1941 detective film noir classic The Maltese Falcon was made.
He also posted a photo of a 1940s radio, hinting that this old-time device might end up being a very important part of the episode’s central mystery. “The plot thickens,” he wrote. Again, we’re intrigued... and also have no idea what is going on.
The episode title “Shadow Play” could be a reference to an episode of The Twilight Zone, in which a man convicted of murder and sentenced to death is unable to convince the world around him that they are all living in a dream.
Could this be part of the mind-blowing scene that Jenn was talking about? Because, if so, things are about to get really weird in the town of Rosewood. So... can someone just speed up time and make it be 2014, already?!
