The Pretty Little Liars summer finale more or less told us that Alison (Sasha Pieterse) is alive and kicking, but the show has lied to us before (ahem, Toby). If we can’t trust the outright declarations on the show, what can we trust? How about our clue-gathering?! Here are five reasons we think Pretty Little Liars is telling the truth when it tries to convince us (and the Liars) that Ali is alive.

The sightings

Seeing is believing, right? If that’s the case we have many, many reasons to believe because here’s a list of the people who have admitted to seeing Ali since her disappearance:

  • Aria

  • Emily

  • Hanna

  • Spencer

  • Mrs. DiLaurentis

  • Mrs. Grunwald

That’s quite the assortment. You’ve got some skeptics on there, a few mature adults, and probably 20/20 vision-er or two. We know there were drugs and/or near loss of consciousness involved in many of these sightings, but the sheer number of people who have seen Ali speaks for itself.

The eye in the lair

Speaking of vision, who was that eye spying on the Liars through the peephole in “A”’s lair? Because it sure as hell wasn’t one of Ezra’s brown, soulful (or is it soulless?) eyes. Nope, it was a brilliant blue peeper, and I think we all know who belongs to a pair of those.

The crawl space

Creepy as that crawl space was, we’re beginning to think its resident had sentimental reasons for living in the DiLaurentis’ walls. Sure, it was the perfect spot to spy from (though, vulnerable to knitting needles), but it was also close to home for a certain blonde-haired, blue-eyed teenager homesick and on the run for too long. Doesn’t it make sense that after so much time away, Ali would want to spend some time crashing at home?

Mrs. Grunwald’s testimony

We’ve mentioned that Mrs. G. has seen Ali since her “death,” but the Ravenswood resident has done a little more than that. She pulled Ali from the ground on the night of her supposed murder, driving the frightened girl to the hospital before Ali disappeared into the night. It’s one thing to catch a glimpse of blonde out of the corner of your eye à la Mrs. D. It’s whole other thing to have saved the life of Ali the very night she was alleged to have died.

Red Coat to the rescue!

The summer finale marked yet another time Red Coat swooped in to save a Liar from certain death. She stopped the assembly line that moved the Emily-filled box towards a saw. Past rescues include last season’s epic finale in which Red Coat pulled Mona, Emily, Aria, and Hanna from the burning Thornhill Lodge. You know who else exhibits this kind of behavior? Ali in Season 2, Episode 12: “Over My Dead Body,” when she saves Em from a carbon monoxide-filled barn. Well, everyone convinces Em she was hallucinating, but we’re so over that excuse. In our opinion, this was just another Red Coat Rescue! And Ali saving the Liars makes total sense. She might not want to reveal herself to her BFFs, but she isn’t going to sit back and watch them die!
