Pretty Little Liars’ Season 4, Episode 19 (“Shadow Play”) might just be our most-anticipated episode of the upcoming winter season. So far, we know the episode will be filmed mostly in black-and-white, seems to have a 1940s film noir vibe, and includes some Spoby romance. But the awesomeness just keeps coming! Check out what Sasha Pieterse (Ali) and writer/director Joseph Dougherty had to say about the episode.
It's Sasha’s favorite episode!
Sasha is really excited for the episode to happen, calling it not only her favorite ep of the season, but of the entire series: “#419 my favorite episode of #prettylittleliars by FAR...a lot of incredible photos coming your way,” tweeted Sasha Monday. Sasha’s tweet confirms that Ali will not only be in the episode, but presumably get some substantial screen time (i.e. more than the occasional flashback). Could this mean that Ali might really be alive and hanging with the Liars in the second half of Season 4?
Better than clandestine candystripers
In Season 1, Episode 11: “Moments Later,” Hanna sees/hallucinates Ali visiting her in the hospital, dressed incognito as a candystriper. It was a good look for Alison and allowed her to sneak into the hospital (or Hanna’s dreams) unnoticed. Apparently, Joseph Dougherty has exceeded that display of clandestine costume wearing: “I believe I have topped Ali's candystriper uniform with #PLL 419,” he tweeted yesterday. We can’t wait to see what that means. Episode 19 has been described as a sort of a reverse Wizard of Oz. Now, we had thought that was in reference to the mostly black-and-whiteness of the episode, but perhaps PLL is drawing some real references from the classic film. Could Ali be going full-on Dorothy on us? Or perhaps she will attempt to pull off the Wicked Witch of the West’s look? If she is still trying to keep her aliveness under wraps, might we suggest the Cowardly Lion?
There's a Paily scene!
We know that Spoby will be getting some loving in Episode 19, but what about our other favorite PLL couples? Fear not! Because it sounds like Shay Mitchell (Emily) and Lindsey Shaw (Paige) have been rocking it in some Paily scenes: “Directing @shaymitch & @LadyShawsters makes me think it's time to write something to go with The Yellow Sweater,” Joseph tweeted last week. (“The Yellow Sweater” is Joseph’s Paily-centric fanfiction written for Kindle Worlds.) Which means Paily will be getting some on-screen time together in the episode.
