We get nervous whenever a Pretty Little Liars character stays away from Rosewood for too long. We learned from the Maya disappearance, which unexpectedly ended with her dead. Which is why we’re so nervous about Jason DiLaurentis (Drew Van Acker)! Ali’s hunky older brother has been M.I.A. since Season 3, Episode 19: “What Becomes of the Broken-Hearted?” and we’re getting worried. Is Jason dead? We speculate below.

The official story

Even though Jason has been gone for more than a half-season, he’s still gotten a mention. Mrs. DiLaurentis told Emily that her son was staying with his grandmother down south, helping her fix up Grandma D.’s house. Sure, this could be the truth, but “A” has faked correspondences before. Has Mrs. D. really talked to her son? Or has she just received an impersonal email that anyone could fake? It’s important to follow-up on these things on Pretty Little Liars!

What the PLL Powers That Be say

As for the PLL Powers That Be, they seem interested in bringing Jason back but in a vague, non-committal kind of way that makes us nervous. PLL writer Joseph Dougherty told Twitter in July that, “Right now Jason, or at least Drew, is making trouble over on Devious Maids.” Which, could be the real reason Jason is still M.I.A., or could just be an excuse so PLL can keep us complacent before they blindside us when someone digs up J’s body.

Did Ezra kill Jason?

Now that we have a potentially new Big Bad in town in Ezra Fitz, we don’t know what to think. We don’t want to believe that Ezra is capable of taking someone out, but we didn’t expect him to have a whole stalking HQ either. There has been speculation that the sock drawer money Aria found in Ezra’s apartment in Season 3 was from Jason, who gave someone $50,000 in exchange for information about Ali’s death. Did Ezra kill Jason to keep him quiet about the reward? Seems illogical but Ezra could have needed to keep Jason quiet about something else. If Ezra did give Jason information about Ali’s disappearance, perhaps Jason followed the trail to discover that Ezra was Ali’s “Board Shorts” fling from the summer in Cape May? If Jason confronted Ezra about this, we could see things quickly spiraling out of control into accidental murder.

Do you think Jason is dead? Why or why not? Sound off in the comments below!
