Tonight is the night we find out once and for all if Pretty Little Liars biggest enigma Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse) is alive. By the end of the Halloween episode (Season 4, Episode 13: “Grave New World”), we will know the truth about the fate of the Liars’ former bestie, which means it’s time to place your bets, Pretty Little Liars fans! If you need some evidence to stew over, here are seven clues Ali is totally alive.

The “hallucinations”

Really, we could make a whole list using Ali “hallucinations,” aka sighting of Ali post-disappearance as clues (oh wait, we already have!), but we want to expand past that. Still, the instances in which the Liars have seen and spoken with their allegedly dead bestie are some of the best evidence that she is alive and still snarky. One of our faves: Ali visiting Hanna in the hospital and delivering this line: “You know, I really should do something about ‘A.’ That bitch is genuinely getting on my nerves.”

The hand from the ground

Another convincing piece of evidence comes in the form of the end of last year’s Halloween special, aka the shot of someone’s hand coming out of the ground. The scene implied that it was Ali’s hand that was shooting from her recently buried grave. Now, if this were The Vampire Diaries, we would just assume Ali was a vamp. Since it’s not, we assume this means she didn’t die in that grave!

Mrs. Grunwald’s account

Of course, not-dying in one scene doesn’t necessarily mean that Ali didn’t die in a scene set five minutes later. Fortunately, we have Mrs. Grunwald’s account of that night to the rest of Ali’s night a narrative firmly above ground. In the summer finale, Mrs. Grunwald told the Liars that she grabbed Ali’s hand and pulled the frightened girl from the ground that night. According to the story, Grunwald then drove Alison to the hospital where she disappeared while Mrs. G. was running inside to get help.

“A” thinks Ali is alive

“A”’s tracking of Alison certainly suggests that at least he thinks Ali is alive - and “A” knows all! When the Liars stumbled upon “A”’s lair in the summer finale, there was detailed surveillance of not only Red Coat (presumably Ali), but all of the people Ali associated with before her disappearance. This isn’t Ezra’s art installation project (though some Ezria fan would probably prefer this explanation); it’s him trying to find Ali! And you don’t search for a dead person.

Red Coat saves the Liars

Whoever Red Coat is, she keeps coming in to save the Liars when they really, really need it. It happened in the Season 3 finale when Red Coat pulled the Liars from the burning Thornhill Lodge. And, it happened in the summer finale when Red Coat stopped the assembly line that was slowly moving Emily towards a death-by-saw. This implies that Red Coat is someone who cares enough about the Liars to risk her cover to save them. Whatever Ali’s flaws, you could tell she genuinely loved her besties.

Ali’s flashback jokes about her upcoming death

We love all the Alison flashbacks, but some are more informative than others. One that falls into the former category shows Spencer and Alison at church together. Ali says she is keeping diaries so Spence can “carry on” after she’s died. Pretty nonchalant way to talk about your upcoming death almost as if she was planning it. Ali’s foreknowledge of her alleged murder makes us think the entire thing was staged, or at least Ali knew enough ahead of time to make the person who tried to kill her think he or she had successfully done the job.

Red Coat’s basement crawl space

Yes, we were freaked out when Emily discovered that someone (read: Red Coat) had been camped out in the DiLaurentis basement, going so far as to bore holes in the ceiling to listen into conversations in the living space above. But, we wonder if those holes were less for spying and more for...reconnecting. Why would Red Coat want to know what was going on with Mrs. DiLaurentis, who is generally the only occupant of the house? Because it’s her mom and she misses her!

Do you think Ali is alive? Can you think of any more clues that point to her continued existence on this mortal plane? Sound off in the comments below!
