We all remember Spencer’s tailspin in Season 3 of Pretty Little Liars that ended with her kinda, sorta on the “A” Team for a few episodes, but was she meant to be on the “A” Team for realsies? Take a look at what Troian Bellisario (Spencer) told Parade about her character’s “A” Team storyline, the future of her relationship with  Toby (Keegan Allen), and a “really big secret” she’s been hiding from her friends since the beginning.

Troian told the magazine that “the writers have these amazing ideas, but they don’t always get to use them.” An example? It seems that Spencer’s turn to the dark side was originally supposed to last longer than her brief foray into darkness: “That was one of those things we’d discussed — that Spencer would even follow and cross over into the A team,” Troian said of Spencer’s Season 3 “A” Team storyline. “But that didn’t quite work out.” (Or did it?)

Speaking of Spoby-related plotting, what can we expect from Spencer and Toby’s relationship in Season 4B? Guys, grab your tissues because it doesn’t sound great… “Yeah, they’re definitely on-and-off again, but that’s what makes the drama,” said Troian. “They never get to have a date or just be romantic. They’re both such stubborn, hot-headed people. They both want so much for each other and from each other.”

This season, it’s another big secret that may come in between Spencer and Toby (and Spencer and the Liars?), one she’s been keeping for a long time: “There’s a really big secret that’s going to come out—something [Spencer]’s been hiding from her friends pretty much since they knew Allison. And it’s definitely going to throw her plans awry and affect her and Toby to the point where they just can’t go back.”

We’re not sure what Spencer could be hiding, but it sounds big. Could this be the reason for her break down in Season 4, Episode 20?
