Now that we know for certain that Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse) is alive, we have so many questions for the Pretty Little Liars Powers That Be. Perhaps the most potentially affecting question: if the corpse buried wasn’t Ali’s, then whose was it? At the risk of sounding morbid, who is currently rotting away in Ali’s coffin?

The dilemma

No matter how you swing it, it’s not easy to fake one’s death - especially with a case as high profile as Ali’s murder. A body was found and identified as Alison’s. How did she manage to pull this off? Did she kill someone to use as a patsy? Did she wait for someone suitable to die, and then swoop in to plant their body as her’s? Or, did she, perhaps, find someone with the same genetic markers as herself? We speculate below!

Marion Cavanaugh

We’re not sure what the timeline for Toby’s mom’s alleged suicide was, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it happened either right around Ali’s disappearance or, alternatively, when “Ali”’s body was discovered. The more we learn about Marion’s death, the more we think these two tragedies seem tied together. For example, we recently discovered that the police report for Marion’s death changed the location from where she alleged jumped to her death in Radley. We also know that Marion was being visited by “a blond girl.” Was that blond girl Ali? Did she push Marion to her death so she could be used as a patsy for her fake death? We hope not, because that’s pretty terrible.

Alison DiLaurentis

We know, we know, the twin theory is supposedly not happening, but we’re not ready to give up on it yet and, if Alison really did have a twin, there’s a chance that she is the one who is alive and well and Ali really is dead in the ground. Because the death was a murder, there would have been an autopsy done on Ali to determine her identity. Alison is a resourceful girl, but we’re not sure how she would have been able to fake this. Perhaps Ali really was murdered that night.

The other option in the twin theory is that Ali’s twin was the one who was murdered and buried. This would most likely fool any tests done to determine the body’s identity, as identical twins share the same genetic code. If the person doing the autopsy was unaware of a twin, she probably would have determined that the body in question definitely was Ali’s. And Ali gets away scot free! Or, you know, gets away with the cost of contacting none of her friends and family, and on the run for her life.
