We’ve certainly missed Shane Coffey’s fresh-faced snarkasm as Holden Strauss on Pretty Little Liars, but it seems the actor has been doing fine without us. Not only did he take a recent turn as Davina’s crush, Tim, on The Originals, but he’s just been cast in a USA channel pilot! What new show has nabbed this talented young actor?

According to The Wrap, Shane has landed the lead role in The Novice, a new show created by AMC’s Hell on Wheels’ creators Joe and Tony Gayton. He will play Kyle, “a charming and highly intelligent recent college graduate who is forced to move back home with his parents and siblings when his job-search stalls.” Kyle’s post-graduation career path turns darker, however, when he lands a position in a Korean crime organization. Yeah, we didn’t see that coming, either.

We couldn’t be happier for Shane, as the project not only sounds like it has a lot of potential for both critical and commercial success, but because he will be playing the lead. The lead! On PLL, Holden’s main role was as Aria’s decoy date, which only allowed for so much dramatic diversity in his performance. We wonder if the creators behind the project saw Shane’s performance in the short film, Exiles, which was produced by and co-starred in with PLL co-star and real life friend, Troian Bellisario (Spencer). In the short, Shane played Romeo to Troian’s Juliet and, from the looks of the trailer, they both did a phenomenal job.

Well, if this project gets picked up and done well, we may have seen the last of Holden Strauss. Maybe his dangerous heart condition finally claimed him. Maybe he has become an internationally-renowned martial artist. Maybe he has found his employment niche as a professional decoy date for other complicated couples. Whatever happens to Holden, we’re pretty excited to follow the real-life narrative of Shane’s promising acting career.

Are you as excited for Shane as we are? Do you think the show will get picked up? Sound off in the comments below!
