TV is a tricky beast. Storylines are constantly evolving and changing, and it's easy to ask yourself "What if..." when you look back on major turning points in a favorite show's history. One moment that many Pretty Little Liars fans would give good money to erase is Maya St. Germain's (Bianca Lawson) shocking death. While we can't go back in time and change what the writers did, we can theorize about how things might have played out if Maya had been allowed to live.

First, let's think about Maya herself. While we're sure Emaya fans envision she and Emily basking happily in each others' love, this is Pretty Little Liars we're talking about. If Maya hadn't been killed, there would have been another twist in her story by now. After all, as much as we liked her, the girl was also suspicious. She had odd connections to all sorts of characters in town (Noel Kahn, anyone?), and because she'd lived in Ali's house, there was a strong possibility that she'd learned secrets it would have been better to keep buried.

Would Maya have turned out to be secretly bad? Maybe, maybe not, but either way we're sure she would have been a strong suspect at some point (after all, Spencer does have a thing for accusing the other Liars' loves). If it turned out she wasn't bad, perhaps Emily would have finally opened up about Alison and "A", and maybe Maya could have even provided some clues for the Liars based on her time in Ali's house.

And what about the other big love in Emily's life, Paige? She and Emily had the beginnings of a relationship before Maya died, but that fell apart when Paige wasn't ready to come out, and then Maya came back and swept Emily off of her feet again. However, Pretty Little Liars does have a knack for good love triangles, so we wouldn't be surprised if Paige still put up a fight for Emily's affection.

Still, with Maya in the picture, would Paige have gotten the girl? It's certainly possible, particularly if Emily herself started to suspect Maya was up to no good. On the other hand, perhaps the Paige character would have developed in a different direction. At this point in the show, it's clear to us that she's a good guy, but she did have some rage issues early on. Perhaps she would have turned on Em and/or Maya if her attempts at wooing her love fell through. Heck, maybe she and Wren could have joined forces as angry spurned Liars lovers....

What do you think would have happened if Maya had lived? Do you wish she had, or do you like where the show has gone? Sound off in the comments below!
