The Pretty Little Liars cast and crew has been teasing Season 4, Episode 19 (“Shadow Play”) for months now and while we’ll have to wait until February 11 for the epic episode to air, we’re finally getting a glimpse of our favorite Liars in black and white.

While we don’t know too much about the highly anticipated episode, PLL writer Joseph Dougherty has revealed that the entire noir-style show will be in black and white and that Spencer (Troian Bellisario) and Toby (Keegan Allen) drama will take center stage.

Joseph teased us with images of the noir episode back in September, posting an Instagram photo of a 1940s radio with the caption, “The plot thickens.” Now, we’re getting our first look at Spencer and Toby dressed up in their finest ‘40s wear. Joseph tells TVGuide that Toby is a tough private eye while Spencer is a seductress with, naturally, a few secrets of her own.

“What stands out for me is how the four Liars carry their personalities into this new world,” Joseph told TVGuide.

When asked how the noirlike episode came about, Joseph told the mag that the all black-and-white episode was a continuation of PLL’s original style.

“ABC Family noticed what we were doing visually on the show, going for noirlike effects and asked if we wanted to go all the way and make something special in black and white,” he said. “We had to test the wardrobe to see what everything would look like.”
