In Rosewood, you never know what crazy twist is coming around the bend. The writers aren't afraid to throw caution to the wind and go all out with their plotlines, so there's no theory too out there to be considered. That's why we like to dive into the world of fantastic Pretty Little Liars fan theories every week to bring you concepts that are outside the box, but are just so interesting, they might even be right!

This week, we want to talk about the ever-suspicious Hastings family. More specifically, if any member of this family may have known Ali was alive.

As this Tumblr user points out, there are a lot of reasons to think the Hastings family might be deeply involved with everything that happened around Ali's disappearance.

First of all, Ali is connected to the Hastings not just through Spencer's friendship, but through the fact that her mom and Spencer's dad had an affair, and Jason is their child. Ali knew that little fact, and although Mr. Hastings insisted she never blackmailed him about it, it's possible that was a lie.

That's only the tip of the iceberg. You also had Spencer's dad freaking out about the field hockey stick Toby unearthed in their backyard, basically everything about Melissa, and, perhaps oddest of all, Spencer's mom deciding to defend Garrett after he was accused of Ali's murder.

Is it possible that Ms. Hastings went to bat for Garrett not just because she thinks everyone deserves a fair trial, but because she knew, or at least heavily suspected, that he couldn't possibly have killed Ali, because Ali was alive? In her big confrontation with Spencer, Melissa hinted that she'd been trying to "protect" her sister for years, and also suggested that, at least at one point, she suspected Ali wasn't so dead after all. Plus, there's the fact that Spencer herself was out of the barn and about the night Ali disappeared...

What do you think of this theory — is it possible the Hastings, or at least some part of the family, know the truth? Sound off in the comments below.
