While all of the Liars are probably shaken to the core to discover that Alison (Sasha Pieterse) really is still alive, it's Emily (Shay Mitchell) who seems most freaked. During the Pretty Little Liars Season 4 Halloween episode she said she wasn't sure if she was ready to see Ali again, probably because she used to be in love with her bestie. Now that Ali is back, could those flames be reignited?

Yes, Emily seems very happy with Paige, but it's hard to get over your first love, and we all know Alison has a particularly strong effect on people. The synopsis for the Season 4 winter premiere confirms that Em "has trouble dealing with how she feels about Alison being alive."

Could Ali and Emily actually happen? Or, if not, will Emily at least struggle with romantic feelings for Rosewood’s former Queen Bee? Marlene King has said in the past that she ships these two girls, so we have to think the idea was at least tossed around the writer's room. Here are a few reasons we hope that the possibility of a relationship between Alison and Emily is at least entertained, even if Em decides that sticking with Paige is the right way to go (which, let's be real, it probably is).

Their chemistry is off the charts. First things first: As far as we're concerned, this pair has always been overflowing with chemistry. That's part of the reason we're so excited to see them have scenes together again, even if those scenes aren't romantic.

Emily has grown so much. Back in the day, Ali was able to control and manipulate Em, which was not cool at all. But now that Emily has grown into a strong, confident woman, we think it would be fascinating to revisit the possibility of a relationship. This time, the footing would be far more equal.

If Ali heads down the redemption path... Alison was awful to Emily last time around, and we wouldn't wish a bad relationship on any of the Liars. But a near-death experience and time in hiding may have changed the former mean girl. We're kind of hoping Alison heads down a path towards redemption, and if she does, a relationship with Emily might be just the thing to help her stay on the right track.

All that said, this ship would obviously be complex, and probably still dysfunctional. That could make for some very compelling TV, but could Emily really find a happy ending with Ali? We kinda doubt it. Though in Rosewood, who knows!
