The image, which shows the four main girls photoshopped together, appears to be from Season 1, as the liars look visibly younger. Ashley noted the same thing on her Instagram page.
“Saw this floating around....hope it's not the poster,” she wrote. “Our faces in this were from 4 years ago.....and we all look ridiculous. Way too much photoshop. We all have flaws. No one looks like this. It's not attractive.”
Ashley’s co-star Troian followed suit on December 12, speaking out against the heavy use of Photoshop in the image. She wrote: “Wow @itsashbenzo I couldn't agree more. Very cool concept as always. But aren't we attractive enough women as we are? Why can't we just look like us. Once.”
So far, ABC Family has yet to respond to the controversy, but we have to agree with our Liars on this one. While we appreciate the red dresses and ominous tagline — “New Truth. New Enemy. New Year.” — we couldn’t help but be distracted from the obvious Photoshop work. These are not the Liars we’re come to know, and love, in Season 4.
Plus, where’s Ali? Sasha Pieterse is going to be a huge part of Season 4B, and we think she should have been included in the key art. Take this fan-made Season 4 poster on the right, for example. See? All five little liars, and intriguing background, and minimal Photoshop! Is it too late for ABC Family to make a switcheroo? Here's hoping they reconsider their marketing campaign going forward.
What do you think, PLL fans? Are you a fan of the new poster, or do you agree with Ashley and Troian? Sound off in the comments!
