When she’s not busy playing badass brainiac Spencer Hastings on Pretty Little Liars, Troian Bellisario is crafting her own stories. This past year, she devoted her time as a producer, writer, and actress in the short film, Exiles, a new take on the classic tale of Romeo & Juliet. This week, she took to Twitter to answer fan questions about the process...

On the subject of playing such an iconic character, Trian tweeted: “I've always wanted to play Juliet, still do. But I wanted to take a different spin on it. #exiles.” Exiles tells the story of what would have happened if Romeo and Juliet escaped death in Verona, instead letting their relationship play out in exile. And it looks awesome!

One of the other reasons we want to check out the short film is Troian’s Romeo: Shane Coffey, aka PLL’s Holden Strauss! In real life, Shane is one of Troian’s best friends. What was it like working with one of her besties, one Twitter user asked...

“The absolute best,” tweeted Troian. “Love my @blue_cypress.” Aww. We love that Holden and Spencer are besties in real life and kind of bummed they never got to interact on PLL. Come back, Holden!

Apparently, Shane didn’t even have to audition for the role in Exiles. Troian, who went to film school with the actor, had that much faith in his abilities: “No audition process.  I have done many many plays with him and trusted him to be the best Romeo ever,” tweeted Troian. Gah! Can we see this short now, please?

Do you want to see Exiles as much as we do? Sound off in the comments below!
