Pretty Little Liars star Troian Bellisario (Spencer) is the Seventeen covergirl for February 2014, and she is opening up for the popular mag. What did the young actress say her biggest fear is? Read on to find out!

Troian fessed up to Seventeen about what she is most afraid of and it’s not rodents or spiders, but something much more abstract (and harder to overcome). Troian fears: “That I won’t succeed — which is why I relate to Spencer, and why I went through the things that I did growing up. And that’s not a way to live your life, so it’s constantly something that I’m catching myself in, and going ‘you gotta let that go.'"

In the quote, Troian refers to the struggles she had in her high school years (and even, to some extent, today) to be “the perfect little girl,” as she told Seventeen in their feature article. This quest to be perfect led to an eating disorder and other forms of self-harm for the teenaged Troian.

The PLL star shared that she “started self-harming” during her junior year of high school by withholding food and not going out with her friends based on her academic performance: “I just thought if I ever expressed to [my parents] any sadness or anger or anything that's going on with me, they would disown me. I kept a lot of it bottled up inside, and it turned into self-destructive behavior."

We love that Troian is willing to share her story in the hopes of helping other young people who struggle with similar issues. This also adds an added meta-profoundness to Spencer’s own struggles with her desire to please her parents and everyone else in her life, to live up to an at times impossible standard she has set for herself. It seems this will become a central theme in Spencer’s story arc in Season 4B, as she potentially turns to drugs in an attempt to stay academically competitive. Yikes!
