The reveal that bully-turned-bullied Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse) is alive throws everything we thought we knew about Pretty Little Liars into question. Top of the list: the allegiance of Jenna Marshall (Tammin Sursok). Could Jenna be working for Ali?

Yes — that’s why someone tried to kill her

Um, that attempt on Jenna’s life in Season 4A is looking mighty suspicious in light of recent resurrections. It certainly seems like someone tried to get the information about Alison out of Jenna info we know she had because the Liars overheard her saying it. Does she know that Alison is alive and, perhaps, even know the location of the former mean girl? If so, it stands to reason that she has been working with Alison since her disappearance.

Though this may seem crazy, there are some signs that point to its possibility. For instance: the fact that Ali saw Jenna not once, but twice on the day of her disappearance. Sure, at least one of those times was to threaten Jenna, but conversations can be deceiving. Especially if Ali knew someone “A” was watching her every movement. Who better to recruit as an ally than a seeming enemy? Additionally, Jenna has disappeared for large periods of time since Ali’s faked death. She had plenty of opportunity to meet up with Ali on the road and help the not-dead teenager out.

Finally, we have Jenna’s relationship with Shana to consider. The two seem to be, at the very least, close friends. But now there is evidence Shana also has a connection to Ali. In the Canadian promo for Season 4, Episode 16 (“Close Encounters”), Shana delivers a message from Ali to the Liars. If Shana is working with Ali, then we’re guessing Jenna is, too.

No — Ali was the one who tried to kill Jenna

Of course, another way of reading the attempted murder on Jenna’s life is to assume that Alison did it — or, more accurately, sent CeCe to do it. Jenna truly seems to despise Alison. If she knew about her not-deadness and was threatening to reveal Ali’s entire plan, then we wouldn’t necessarily put it past the mean girl to send her minion to keep Jenna quiet — permanently. At the hospital following Jenna’s drowning, Shana told the Liars that Jenna was afraid of CeCe. Since we think CeCe may be working with Alison, it follows that Jenna and Alison are not working together. Maybe they are just mortal enemies. It’s not like this even would have been the first time Ali almost killed Jenna. Or, if CeCe and Ali are in cahoots, the first time Ali sent CeCe to kill someone. (That was a not-so-subtle reference to Detective Wilden’s murder.)
