Pretty Little Liars has never shied away from difficult topics, and starting with tonight's Season 4, Episode 17 (“Bite Your Tongue”), we're going to see Spencer Hastings go down a dark path — using study drugs to help her stay focused in the hunt for "A".

While we don't know exactly how this plot will play out, we do know that by Season 4, Episode 19 ("Shadow Play") "Spencer’s numerous sleepless nights with the help of prescription pills start to take a toll on her" — in fact, her mentally shaky state leads her to envision the world like a 1940's Film Noir movie.

We'll see more of this plot tonight, but we've heard enough about it to know it will have a notable impact on the next few episodes, and we're wondering what you, the fans, think about that.

Personally, we think we're OK with this plot (depending on how it plays out, of course). Taking study drugs is a bad idea, but it's exactly the kind of bad idea Spencer would make — her intense need to find the truth has always pushed her to extremes, so this is a logical offshoot of that. (It is also linked to the Pretty Little Liars books, which also featured the Spencer character popping pills to stay on top.)

That said, it's also yet another complication in a season that already has a lot going on. So, we want you to vote in our reaction buttons and sound off in the comments about what you think of this plot. Good idea, or too much?
