Life on the run is expensive. This is what we learned from last night’s episode of Pretty Little Liars as we watched Alison DiLaurentis’ (Sasha Pieterse) desperate attempts to retrieve money she had left hidden in her Rosewood home. Where did Ali get all that moolah? Pretty Little Liars head writer Bryan Goldman has some theories...

When one fan asked Bryan during last night’s PLL Twitter chat where the heck Alison got $5,000, the scribe responded: “Good question. Prolly blackmail.” And we’re inclined to agree. We know that Ali blackmailed Byron Montgomery out of some big bucks in exchange for keeping his extramarital affair a secret. Could the dough have come from that unpleasant exchange, or has Ali blackmailed other people? Frankly, we wouldn’t put it past her.

We’ve wondered before if Alison is blackmailing Ezra, prompting his desperate interest in finding her. She has the ammo: it seems that he and she were together before Alison was fake-murdered. She could definitely pin it on him. And we know that Ezra has had access to cold hard cash. In Season 3, Episode 5, Aria finds a whole mess of cash in a drawer in Ezra’s apartment at a time when Ezra was unemployed and supposedly struggling for money. Was he giving that money to Alison? Is it the same cash she was trying to get her hands on in last night’s episode?

Where do you think Alison got the cash? Who could she have blackmailed to get that kind of money? Sound off in the comments below!
