Ever since Ezra was unmAsked as “A” on the Season 4 midseason finale, the Pretty Little Liars Powers That Be have been taking his creepiness to a whole new level. From his unnerving glances, to his obsession with the Liars (seriously, have you seen his new lair?), Ezra is clearly the bad guy… right?
In this sneak peek from Tuesday night’s all-new episode (Season 4, Episode 19: “Shadow Play”), Ezra is driving Aria back into town after their “romantic” weekend at his cabin. (That is, if you think being watched while you sleep is romantic.) But something is up with Aria. When Ezra starts prying, she tells him she’s just stressing over her creative writing homework.
“It started as this one thing and then it turned into something completely different,” she tells him. “I had this hero, but heroes just aren’t what they used to be anymore, so I got fascinated with the villain.” [CUE CREEPY MUSIC]
“Does your villain lose in the end?” Ezra asks. “I’m not sure,” Aria says. “Sometimes the villains win.”
Clearly, the Powers That Be are working overtime to foreshadow what’s about to come. Aria might not know it now, but she’s got a villain in her real life to deal with. We know most of Season 4, Episode 19 will take place inside Spencer’s drug-fueled mind (hence, the black and white portion of the episode), but it looks like her delusion will advance the plot. Right now, Spencer, Hanna, and Emily know about EzrA, but they’ve been hesitant to reveal their findings to Aria. “Shadow Play” is a gamechanger for the Liars as they have to decide how to break the news to their friend. After watching this clip, we don’t think Aria is going to take the news too well. Although, judging from Ezra’s odd behavior lately, she should have known something was up.
