After episodes without any Paily scene to speak of, the romance is back in this week’s episode of Pretty Little Liars. Check out this beautifully melancholic sneak peak scene of Paige (Lindsey Shaw) and Emily (Shay Mitchell) discussing Paige’s past relationship with Shana in Season 4, Episode 19 (“Shadow Play”). Awkward.

Poor Paily. In a different sneak peek to this week’s episode, we see Spencer and Hanna asking Emily to grill her girlfriend about Shana. Shana is missing, and she is the Liars’ best chance at getting in touch with Alison. In this sneak peek exclusive to After Ellen, we see Emily doing just that.

“It was a long time ago,” Paige tells Emily. The two seem to be the only patrons at The Brew (which, like the other Pretty Little Liars sets has been noir-ified, a cigarette dispenser visible in the background).

“Not that long,” Emily says. Paige feels guilty: “I told you what happened. I’m sorry about what happened.” “I’m not asking you to apologize,” Emily tells her, which confuses Paige.

“Then why are you asking me about her?” Paige asks (which is totally a fair question). “I thought about you when I was with her. I can’t believe I just said that. That’s what a boy says when he cheats. I feel almost normal.” Emily reaches over to take her hand in a show of support and love. The man wiping down the counter glances over at them and they break apart. It’s not cool to be a lesbian in 1940s film noir.

“Maybe I should go,” Paige says. Apparently, they always leave separately so as not to attract notice. Emily offers to go first because Paige always goes first. She tells Em: “I have to leave first… because I can’t stand to see you walk away from me.” Aww. And we think there’s plenty more Paily where this came from. In this behind-the-scenes promo for the episode, we see Paige and Emily making out in front of a city-scaped window. Bring on the Paily!
