We’re still not sure what exactly the Mona-Fitz connection is on Pretty Little Liars, but Ezra (Ian Harding) seems to be calling on it in this sneak peek for Season 4, Episode 20 (“Free Fall”). He even desperate to interrupts the date Mona (Janel Parrish) has with Mike to do it.

In the minute-long video, we see Mike and Mona on a date together, and it is actually super adorable. Mona looks happy (?), laughing at something Mike has said. That is, before Ezra enters the restaurant.

“So, do you want to split the steak and fries, or were you more into the chicken?” Mike asks Mona, who is distracted by Ezra’s entrance. He obviously wants to talk to her about something, but is just kind of loitering there in the doorway.

Mona votes for the steak before telling Mike: “I’ll be right back, I just have to talk to Mr. Fitz about a reading assignment.” Now, if we were Mike (or anyone, really) in this situation, we would be weirded out by a teacher showing up at a restaurant to talk to his student about a reading assignment. This is compounded by what Mike knows about Ezra: that he has already been involved in one serious relationship with one of his students. It’s hard to tell Mike’s reaction to this whole situation, but he has already punched Ezra once (just sayin’).

Mona makes her way over to Ezra. “What are you doing here?” she hisses, and Ezra feigns ignorance. He’s here to get something to eat. Duh.  “Look, I can’t help you anymore,” Mona tells him. “Why’s that?” Ezra asks.

Mona looks back at Mike before telling him: “It’s gotten too complicated.” Aww. Is Mona quitting the “A” Team for Mike? When did this ‘ship become something we care about?

Unfortunately, Ezra’s not accepting resignations at this time. “It’s always been complicated, Mona,” he says, pretty scarily. “It’s a little too late to back out, especially now. When I need your help.” Yikes!

What has Ezra in such a sour mood? And will Mona choose to help him? Share your theories in the comments below!
