We love all of Pretty Little Liars’ constant thrills and surprises, but at the end of every episode, it always seems as though we have more questions than answers — and that was especially true this week.

To that end, we’ve tackled the biggest questions from this week’s episode in order to figure out what’s really going on in Rosewood, and to pick up on any and all clues.

Here are 10 questions from Season 4, Episode 21: “She’s Come Undone.”

1. Did Spencer actually hurt Ali and why did Mrs. DiLaurentis pay off CeCe?

We get a mighty juicy new glimpse at the night Ali died, with Spencer wielding that shovel. So did she attack Ali? We’re guessing that she didn’t and we think Mrs. D and CeCe know that. However, it’s possible that Mrs. D wants to use the possibility of Spencer as a murderer as leverage of Spencer’s dad for some reason.

2. Does Paige’s “no secret meetings” speech mean she knows about Emily meeting Ali?

When Paige tells Emily to end all communication with Ali, she says that Emison can’t have any “secret meetings.” So does this mean Paige somehow knows that Emily met up with Ali a few weeks back? We hadn’t seen Emily tell Paige about the meeting, so we wonder if Paige knows about it because she’s working with “A.” We also wonder if Paily is soon headed for Splitsville.

3. Is there any significance to the photo of Aria in a black veil?

When Aria goes through the stack of photos of herself at Ezra’s place, the last photo she glances at is of Aria wearing a black veil. If you ask us, this is a bit reminiscent of the mysterious Black Widow character from Wilden’s funeral. Hmmm.

4. Is it just a coincidence that Aria and “A” are both shown next to fires?

After we see Aria tossing Ezra’s notes into the fireplace, we then see “A” stoking a fire at the end of the episode while reading the manuscript. So is the show trying to tell us something by having these two fiery scenes? We’re wondering whether there’s any chance Aria is the one wearing the hoodie by the fire at the end of the episode.

5. What is Ali telling Spencer?

In a flashback to the night Ali died, Ali tells Spencer that she is out of her league. But what is Ali referring to? And what started Ali and Spencer’s shockingly heated scuffle, which led to Spencer screaming that their conversation “isn’t over”?

6. What is Ali talking about in the recording where she says she’s safe?

Apparently, one of the few things Aria doesn’t turn into a trillion pieces is the recording in Ezra’s apartment of Ali saying she’s safe for the moment. So is Ali talking to Ezra and what is she having to stay safe from?

7. Will the cops find Ali with Paige’s note?

We all know that Rosewood’s police force isn’t exactly comprised of the smartest bunch of folks. So will the cops succeed in finding Ali? And does Paige’s motive for dropping that note in the police car mean she has an ulterior motive for wanting to track Ali down?

8. Is Ezra really meeting with his agent about the Ali book?

It’s hard to know if Ezra is actually meeting with his literary agent about his Ali book, or if he’s at the office for a different reason. The letter that Aria finds from his agent says that the book’s publisher still wants to see a really strong ending to the book, so we have a feeling he might go to great lengths to make that ending happen.

9. Where is Aria heading?

We’ll agree that a vacay can do a person some good, but somehow we doubt that Aria is headed to a Sandals in the Caribbean or anything like that. So where is Aria headed with her suitcase in hand? And is she trying to track someone down?

10. Why don’t the Liars read Ezra’s notes?

The Liars often seem to be a few steps behind “A,” and they’re always desperate for intel. So why wouldn’t they at least take a glance at Ezra’s notes before trashing everything? Spencer at least pockets a few things, but you’d think the girls would take any help they can get.
