Spencer Hastings (Troian Bellisario) may have kicked the drug habit in the next episode of Pretty Little Liars, but she’s still losing it. In this sneak peek for Season 4, Episode 22 (“Cover For Me”), she’s back from detox and remembering more and more about the night Ali went missing.

“They said that the medical detox would help mitigate your discomfort,” Veronica Hastings tells Spencer as her daughter unpacks her bag in the 50-second video.

Spencer is thankfully back to her snarky self: “It did, Mom. I was so comfortable kicking my drug habit.” She apologizes, apparently the medical detoxers said to “expect irritability over the next few days.” As far as we can tell, that’s Spencer’s normal manner of interaction with her parents.

But Veronica is taking it in stride: “As long as you’re home and well, I can handle it.” About that… while Spence may not be popping pills, she is flashing back to the night Ali went missing. Like, during this conversation. While Veronica offers to make Spencer dinner, Spence is distracted by the replay of her shovel-wielding fight with Ali. Here’s the breakdown:

  • We hear Spence’s cry: “Don’t you walk away from me.”

  • And Ali’s retaliatory taunt: “You’re way out of your league, Spencer.”

  • We see Spence throwing up dirt with a shovel.

  • “You sure about that?” Spencer asks Ali.

  • We see Ali running into the woods.

  • Ali’s voice over: “Put that thing down before you hurt yourself.”

Basically, Spencer still has a lot to work through until she’s skipping through the halls of the Hastings home again. And we want answers about that night. We don’t really think Spence tried to kill Ali, but we think she may have been there — or, better yet, helped her stage it.

Do you think Spencer hurt Alison that night? Do you think she helped her? Sound off in the comments below!
