Guess who nabbed a Saturn Award nomination! Our favorite teenage murder mystery, Pretty Little Liars. The ABC Family drama has been nominated in the category of “Best Youth-Oriented Television Series.” Check out its killer competition…
Unfortunately, Pretty Little Liars is up against some of our other favorite shows: The Vampire Diaries, Arrow, The Tomorrow People, Supernatural, and Teen Wolf. Yeah, try to choose a favorite out of that lot. We dare you.
Actually, it will be the burden of The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films to choose a winner amongst winners. Since 1972, they have been giving out Saturn Awards “to honor and recognize films often overlooked by mainstream awards” — a totally noble pursuit, in our humble opinion. The Emmys are notorious for overlooking genre shows when handing out nominations. Since the Saturn Awards’ inception, the Academy has added television categories alongside those for film, making it one of our favorite awards ceremonies (even if it’s not televised).
Academy president Robert Holguin had this to say about this year’s nominations: “This has been an incredible year for genre entertainment which I affectionately refer to as enhanced or exaggerated reality. The films and shows we honor continue to lead in box-office success showcasing a cadre of great talent helming today’s works of wonder. I’m thrilled to see the organization reach it’s fourth decade of dedication to the most imaginative creations on the silver screen and fantastic visions on the television screen.”
Awards will be handed out in June in Burbank, California. Congratulations on the nomination, PLL!
