On tonight’s episode of Pretty Little Liars, we get to meet Aria’s new guy Riley, played by the studly Nick Roux of Jane by Design fame. In anticipation of the big event, TV Line talked to Nick about what we can expect from his arc. Is this just a “weekend fling” or is it something more?

Last time we saw Aria, she was getting the heck out of dodge in the wake of Ezra’s massive betrayal. When we catch up with her in tonight’s episode — Season 4, Episode 22 (“Cover For Me”) — she’s at Syracuse University for prospective student’s week. (Yeah, Aria’s breakdown quickly fizzled.) While there, she will make a connection with Riley, another prospective student.

“Riley’s a musician who meets Aria on a college trip,” Nick explains. “They hit it off for different reasons; they’re both coming off relationships, so they have multiple things they connect with. And it was great working with Lucy Hale. She’s so sweet, and we had some chemistry that made it easy to work together. Aria and Riley, who knows?” We appreciate his naivete. Everyone knows Ezria is endgame, right? To be honest, after this past season, we’re not sure what to expect from this formerly epic couple or what Aria’s next step should be — though, we’re inclined to suggest a little time spent as a single lady might not go amiss.

But what’s the deal with this “weekend fling”? From what we know of Aria, she’s not the type to canoodle with guys with whom she doesn’t have a genuine connection. Will Riley be the same, or has her recent heartbreak changed her dating style? Well, according to Nick, “It starts out as a little weekend fling, but it turns out to be bigger than either of them expects it to be. There are more connections than just physical attraction. We kind of both help each other work through some issues.” Does that mean what happened at Syracuse might not necessarily stay at Syracuse?
