Pretty Little Liars has pointed its “A” finger at a new and surprising member of the Rosewood community: Mrs. DiLaurentis (Andrea Parker). And, we have to admit, she is looking pretty guilty. Here are five reasons Alison’s own mother could be “A.”

She taught Alison everything she knows about manipulation.

The Liars have often remarked on the similarities between “A”’s behavior and their fake-dead besties. Both Alison and “A” know how to use secrets against people. They seem to get some sort of joy from manipulating the people in their lives into doing their bidding. This isn’t a coincidence. Ali learned how to be a mean girl from her mother, which is why we know Mrs. D. is totally capable — both morally and logistically — of being “A.”

She has a great motive.

Not that it would justify Mrs. DiLaurentis’ behavior, but she has an excellent reason for torturing the Liars: she believes them responsible for Ali’s supposed death. Even if she didn’t see Spencer go after Alison with a shovel, the Liars were the people Alison was with the night she disappeared. They had a sleepover together. Does Mrs. D. blame them — even if she doesn’t think them responsible for the actual “murder” — for not keeping Alison safe? She seems like the type.

Alison doesn’t trust her.

We’ve speculated before that “A” and the person who is after Alison are on in the same. At first glance, this theory doesn’t make sense if Mrs. D. is “A,” but it actually kind of does. There is a reason Alison didn’t go to her parents after she faked her death, and we think it might be because she suspects her mother of being the one who is after her. Prior to Ali’s disappearance, Mrs. D. was losing control of her daughter — did she take to this role as a nefarious cyber-stalker and emotional terrorist in an attempt to control her own daughter? Furthermore, did Alison and Spencer stage their fight the night of Ali’s disappearance so that Mrs. D. would see it and suspect Ali gone for good?

She’s kept an interest in the Liars.

Mrs. DiLaurentis invited Emily to stay at her house. She crashed Hanna’s date with Travis. She snuck into Spencer’s bedroom as she was getting ready for bed. And these are only the times we’ve seen her. She could be keeping surveillance on the Liars all of the time. Ezra certainly thinks it’s possible — and he would know: he has kept surveillance on the Liars himself.

She has the money.

Whoever “A” is, she seems to have some serious financial assets — as in, tens of thousands of dollars, if not more. We don’t know that much about Mrs. DiLaurentis’ financial situation, but she owns a nice house and works as a real estate agent. Recently, she was even able to hire Hanna’s mom (perhaps, another ploy to get closer to the Liars?). If Mrs. D. isn’t “A,” then she could very well be financing the operation. Did she hire “A” to go after the Liars?
