Guess who popped up on this Buzzfeed list of “The 43 Most Badass TV Heroines”? Our girl Emily Fields (Shay Mitchell)! That’s right, the Pretty Little Liars character totally made the list. Do you think she’s a Badass TV Heroine?

“Shay Mitchell’s Emily is strong both physically (as a competitive swimmer) and emotionally (as an out lesbian in high school). She’s overcome more than her fair share of trauma, having suffered the death of her ex-girlfriend, but she comes out a survivor — proud, kind, and loyal,” reads the explanation for her inclusion on the list — as if we needed any clarification. Though Em may have started out as a somewhat meek character who didn’t always voice or go for what she wanted, we have watched her grow into a strong, confident, and caring woman who stands up for herself and the people she loves.

The most recent example of this came in last night’s episode, when Emily told girlfriend Paige (Lindsey Shaw) that, though she had forgiven her, she didn’t think she would ever be able to trust her again. Though their breakup was painful, we were proud of Emily for not putting up with Paige’s betrayal of trust and saying exactly what she was feeling. She was able to let go of the pain Paige had caused her without brushing aside the consequence: that she had lost her trust in Paige.

Emily’s resiliency as a character becomes even more apparent when we think about what she’s gone through over the last four seasons. While all of the Liars have been through a lot, Emily has arguably had it the worst. She has had to suffer through Ali’s murder, Maya’s murder, Lyndon James’ brutal assault, Ali’s return, and a shoulder injury, which crushed her swimming dreams. And she still manages to love her friends and family fiercely, investigate Ali’s disappearance, and do her homework on time. We’d be curled up in a ball right now! Just sayin’.

Do you think Emily is a badass television heroine? Do you think any of the other Liars should have made the list? Sound off in the comments below!
