It’s been a rocky road for Ezria on Pretty Little Liars, but this show seems committed to the love story between Aria (Lucy Hale) and Ezra (Ian Harding). Here are five reasons why we are, too.

They’re love story is epic

Who doesn’t love a love story full of betrayal, heartbreak, and ultimately, true love conquering all? Obstacle-beating love is one of the major themes in the history of storytelling. No one writes songs about the ones that come easy. Sure, we’re in the midst of one of those obstacle-beatings right now, so it may be hard to see the full shape of this narrative, but if Pretty Little Liars plays its cards right, Ezria has a chance at making the list of best TV epic love stories of all time.

Redemption is compelling

Another one of those major universal themes of storytelling? Redemption. It’s super cathartic to watch someone climb their way back from being the bay guy (or girl), fro making a series of bad choices. It’s also comforting because it means that we can be redeemed. Who hasn’t made a mistake and hoped for the strength or chance to make it up? As misguided as Ezra’s chances have been, we want to at least give him a chance to make it up to Aria (and us).

Aria deserves a happy ending

We’re not sure we believe Ezra deserves Aria, but Aria deserves a happy ending after everything she’s been through, and she still loves Ezra. That gives us some reason to root for this couple even when Ezra is seriously upsetting us.

We’ve invested so much time in their relationship

Maybe we’re being a bit lazy about this, but we don’t give our shipper hearts over to just any TV couples! It’s a commitment, and we’ve invested a lot of time and energy into Ezria. Sure, we could start shipping Aria with college friend Riley or Jason DiLaurentis or Jake or Holden or someone else, but then we’d have to start all over again, and that’s a lot of work.

This kiss

Speaking of all of Ezria history, remember when this happened. Yup, we’re talking about the epic kiss that Aria needed a parking lot’s worth of running start for. These TV shipper moments don’t just grow on trees, you know? They are the result of amazing chemistry between the actors, inspired directing, and stellar writing. In this moment, Ezria totally came together. Is it so wrong that we want to get this back?
