Season 4 of Pretty Little Liars may have been the “season of answers,” but the show still has plenty of questions left to answer in Season 5, and we expect them to. As we continue on the long between-seasons hiatus, we muse on the 10 questions we most want answers to in Season 5.

Who hit Ali in the head? It’s hard to make a list like this and not include the biggest question mark of the Season 4 finale: who tried to kill Ali the night she disappeared from town? Whoever it was, Mrs. D. was willing to cover up her own daughter’s murder for the person in question. That certainly narrows down the list, but we still don’t know enough about the Hastings family or the events of that night to have any definite answers, especially given that there always seems to be more to the story on this show.

What did Melissa whisper in Mr. Hastings’ ear? Speak up, Melissa! We couldn’t quite hear you. We’re dying to know what Melissa whispered into her father’s ear at the police station that got such a reaction, especially since it seemed to have something to do with the girl currently buried in Ali’s grave.

How will everyone react to Ali’s return? Pretty Little Liars isn’t just about the mysteries — it’s about the emotional drama, too, and we’re dying to find out how everyone reacts to Ali’s return to Rosewood. Who already knew? Who wished the former mean girl stayed dead? Who missed her? Who doesn’t care? Most importantly: we want to see how Ali’s family reacts to her not-deadness. Fine, we admit it. Characters returning from the dead is one of our favorite TV storylines.

Who is the girl in Ali’s grave? You know who probably won’t return from the dead? The chick buried in Ali’s grave. Season 4 started out with the question of “Who’s in the box?” and we still don’t know. Is it Sara Harvey, the missing girl from a nearby town? It seems likely. Otherwise, why would they bring it up at all? But, we’re not really sure. Hopefully, the Rosewood PD can do something right and ID the body so we don’t have to wait for the next season finale to find out.

Who killed Mrs. DiLaurentis? Another day, another dead person in Rosewood. Who killed Ali’s mom? And why did they do it? Was it the same person who tried to kill Ali back-in-the-day? That would be totally harsh, given that Mrs. DiLaurentis has protected that person for so long. Also, will the people of Rosewood quickly learn of Mrs. D.’s demise, or is this going to be another long missing person scenario?

Who shot Ezra? Ezra seems to know who shot him in the Season 4 finale, but we have no idea — other than the fact that he or she was obviously a chimney sweep in a former life because the mystery shooter can jump rooftops like no one’s business. Jake? Paige? Wren? All chimney sweeps are from England, right?

What are Noel Kahn’s secrets? We were super intrigued by Ali’s alliance with Noel Kahn. She said that she trusted him because he has secrets, too. What are his secrets? Is it that he is in love with Ali? Or that he is an incredible dancer? Because we’d be willing to explore both of those storylines.

Why did Toby really go to London? We can’t be the only ones who call shenanigans on Toby’s supposed reason for going to London: to inform Melissa of Spencer’s drug relapse. London is expensive, as are transatlantic flights and last time we checked, Toby was struggling to get by on his random carpentry jobs. What gives, Tobes? What was your real reason for going to London? And what does it have to do with Melissa and Wren?

Is Ali telling the truth? We know that Ali was all teary-eyed and heartfelt-like when she recounted the day of her disappearance to the Liars, but is she telling the truth? We need to know. Watching this show is become more and more like playing Clue with a bunch of fibbers. And then finding out that Mr. Body didn’t actually die. And that Miss Scarlet, Colonel Mustard, and Mrs. Peacock have all been killed off. Basically, we’re not so sure what the object of the game is anymore. And we’re pretty sure someone keeps switching the identity of the murderer in the “Confidential” envelope.

Who is “A”? But, really.
