Ryan Guzman may not have the best luck in Rosewood as Pretty Little Liarsdojo-running, Aria-crushing Jake, but he’s doing OK in the real world. The Step Up: Revolution star was just cast in the live-action Jem and the Holograms film, based on the beloved ‘80s cartoon. Check out his enthusiastic response!

“I am so excited,” Ryan gushed in an on-set video exclusive to The Hollywood Reporter. “This is something that’s been amazing in the 80s, when I was growing up, and to finally be a part of it — to be on set — for God’s sake, like oh my god. Amazing.”

The film will reimagine the classic cartoon, following Jerrica, “an orphaned teenage girl who becomes an online recording sensation named Jem.” Ryan has been cast as Rio. In the original incarnation, Rio was Jem’s road manager and technical engineer, and you guessed it, love interest. (Who wouldn’t be attracted to that charming smile?)

The film will be directed by Jon M. Chu, who has cast Aubrey Peeples (of Sharknado and Nashville fame). Rounding out the Holograms: Stefanie Scott (A.N.T. Farm, Flipped) as Jem’s sister, Kimber; Aurora Perrineau (A House Is Not a Home) as Shana; and Hayley Kiyoko (Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins and The Fosters) as Aja. Pretty promising cast!

Though we’re excited to see Ryan picking up an exciting new movie role, we can’t help but wonder if he’ll be ambling back into Aria’s life anytime soon. The last time we saw him, he was warning Aria that Ezra was dangerous and getting stabbed in the foot by a mysteriously hidden knife in his karate kick bag. Yeah, we might avoid the Liars for awhile, too.

Are you intrigued by Ryan’s new film? Do you hope to see Jake in Rosewood in Season 5? Sound off in the comments below!
