Emily (Shay Mitchell) and Paige (Lindsay Shaw) ended the Pretty Little Liars Season 4 firmly apart. Em broke up with Paige after she discovered her girlfriend had betrayed her trust and put Ali’s life in danger by informing the police of her potential not-dead whereabouts. Is this Rosewood couple over for good? We debate below!

Yes, Emily will never forgive Paige. These two were already struggling with the real-life realities of high school romances after high school, worried that they would drift apart when they find themselves apart for the four years of college. And that was before Paige betrayed Ali to the police. Emily is big on trust and, you know, not telling lies. So, the fact that Paige went behind her back when she expressly told her not to putting someone she loved in danger was a total turn off for our favorite Rosewood swimmer. We’re not sure if Emily will ever be able to trust her ex-girlfriend again.

There’s also Ali’s return to keep in mind. The former mean girl (and tormenter of Paige) is coming back to Rosewood, and will be seen as a total threat by Paige who completely (and probably justifiably) hates her guts. Will Paige’s presumed rage over Ali’s safe return and Emily’s still-existing feelings for her former crush and bestie push Paige to do something that will forever split Paily apart? We could definitely see things going that way. That is, if Paige isn’t already doing the unforgivable. It didn’t escape our notice that “A”’s appearance on the rooftops of NYC in the Season 4 finale exposed the villain as mega-athletic. Could Paige herself be “A”? This would certainly spell the end of Paily.

No, Emily will cool down. Tensions were high when the Paily breakup went down. The Liars were on their way out of Rosewood to meet up with Ali, and Paige’s betrayal was fresh on Emily’s mind. Will Emily rethink her dismissal of Paige after the “A” game has cooled down a little bit? It is entirely possible. And don’t think we haven’t considered that Ali’s return to Rosewood might bring Paily together rather than push them apart, by making them confront their still-existing feelings for one another.

This is especially possible if Ali returns to the mean girl ways she loved so much before she disappeared. If Emily can see how poorly Ali treated Paige, perhaps she will better understand and eventually be able to forgive Paige for turning Ali’s whereabouts over to the police. Shay seems to think these two still have a chance. Speaking on the addition of a hot new girl to the Rosewood swim team who happens to befriend Emily, Shay said: "For the Paige and Emily fans, I would say to hold tight. Nothing's ever said and done.”

Do you think Paily is over for good? Why or why not? Sound off in the comments below!
