The Liars are setting an “A” trap in the Season 5 premiere of Pretty Little Liars and guess what? they actually catch someone. According to the synopsis for “EscApe From New York,” “While Aria stands watch over Ezra at the hospital, Alison and the PLLs lay a trap to finally flush out ‘A’ but are shocked by who is ensnared.” Who do the Liars snag? We speculate below!

We’re of the opinion that whomever the Liars catch, it probably isn’t “A.” Or, at least if it is, we won’t find out until the end of the season. There’s no way PLL would have the Liars capture the show’s antagonist in the first episode of the season. What would they spend the rest of the season doing? With this in mind, we think whoever the Liars catch, that person will be coming after them for different reasons...

Toby

Toby’s a total worrywort and has been out-of-town for a few episodes. Basically, he is probably desperate to find Spencer in the wake of what has been a crazy couple of weeks for the girl detective. Toby could totally be the person the Liars ensnare, as he comes after Spence to make sure she and the rest of the Liars are OK. This would be awesome for the inevitable Spoby feels it would produce, but also to see the reunion of Toby and Alison, who were friends before their relationship turned sour for reasons unknown. They left things on a relative good note on the night of Ali’s almost death, Toby thanking her for helping him to free himself from Jenna’s control. Just saying: could be an interesting convo.

Mona

The season premiere synopsis also tells us that “as news of Alison’s resurrection spreads, Mona is not pleased.” Ha! We doubt she would be. We also know Mona well enough to know that she’s not the type to sit around and let things happen. She’s the type to try to influence the situation in her favor. Does she travel to New York in an attempt to convince Ali to, once again, stay away from Rosewood for her “own safety”? It would be a nice callback to the flashback scene we saw between the two on the night of Ali’s disappearance. Plus, it would be a cool moment of confrontation for both of these characters. We’re guessing that, this time, Ali won’t be as easily manipulated especially now that she has her friends at her side.

Jason

Jason has been looking for leads about his sister’s alleged murder for years. We wouldn’t be surprised if, first mention he got of his sister’s not-deadness, he would hightail it to find her. This would also cast additional suspicion onto his character, who at one point was a suspect in Ali’s murder (at least in the Liars’ eyes). Could Jason actually be “A”? If so, why would he go after his own sister? Either way, we could see Ali’s handsome older brother showing up in NYC in the Season 5 premiere.

Noel

You know who else was batting around the Big Apple in the Season 4 finale? Noel Kahn. He was in town to help Ali, an interesting development for his character and one we want to see further explored. Perhaps in the season opener hint, hint. When Alison doesn’t use the plane ticket and papers he got for her to escape the city, Noel might start asking questions and circle back to see what happened. Or, perhaps it was his job to give the Liars a ride back to Pennsylvania? It would be a little rude to drive them all the way to NYC and then leave them there. Do the Liars catch a Kahn in the Season 5 premiere?
