Hanna Marin is going through an identity crisis — and we’re kind of loving it. Rosewood High’s Queen Bee is going grunge for Season 5 of Pretty Little Liars, which means we can say goodbye to florals and pearls and hello to ripped stockings and all black everything.
In a recent Instagram photo, Ashley Benson teased Hanna’s edgy new look. The photo, taken during a night shoot on the Warner Bros. lot in Los Angeles, shows a sullen-looking Hanna waiting for someone on a street corner. She’s wearing black jean shorts over ripped black stockings, heeled black boots, and a black slouchy cardigan over a black tank. See? We told you it was a lot of black. She obviously needed to match her new wardrobe with the black streaks in her hair.
So why the sudden change? Ali’s homecoming is going to be tough on Hanna, and in the third episode of the season (“Surfing the Aftershocks”), she starts “to examine who she really is – Hefty Hanna or Queen Bee Hanna.” Clearly, she decides that she is neither of those things and chooses something radically different — Punk Hanna.
“Hanna is now going through an identity crisis. She doesn’t want to be like Ali,” Ashley Benson told Wetpaint on the set of Pretty Little Liars. “She’s going to go a bit darker and edgier.”
Now, we wonder if Hanna’s new edge will bring her closer to Caleb when he returns in Episode 5 (“Miss Me x 100”) of the season.
