It would be easier to list the characters we don’t suspect as “A” on Pretty Little Liars. Rosewood is full of suspicious characters — even the ones closest to the Liars have their secrets — but which residents stand out as particularly dastardly? As we move into Season 5, here are our top three “A” suspects…
We really hate to say it, but a lot doesn’t add up about Jason DiLaurentis (Drew Van Acker). He has gaps in his memory from the night of Ali’s almost-death. He is one of the few people Mrs. DiLaurentis would protect after that attack on Ali. And he seemed desperate to get information about Ali following her alleged death. Was he using the ruse of a search for answers about her “death” to conduct an “A” search for her location? Did Mrs. D. keep the identity of her own daughter’s would-be murderer a secret because it was her other child? Is Jason “A”?
Maya St. Germain
Sasha Pieterse calls the theory that Maya (Bianca Lawson) is “A” one of her favorite “A” theories — and we have to agree. Don’t think it didn’t escape our notice that we never actually saw Maya’s body, especially given that people come back from the dead all the time on this show. Furthermore, Maya moved to town just when the “A” stuff started up — sure, it was Mona who was pulling those tricks, but was she alone? Mona moved into Ali’s house, which gave her plenty of access to Ali and Jason’s secrets. She disappeared for long periods of time (including, perhaps, now), which would allow her to go about her “A” business unnoticed. Also — the ultimate proof — she has not one, but two “a”s in her name!
If anyone could pull off being “A,” it’s a Hasting. They’re clever, cunning, and will stop at nothing to achieve their goal. Melissa (Torrey DeVitto) is the shadiest of Hastings — and she’s lost a lot since the “A” game began — enough to make her turn desperate. Not to mention she’s always hated Ali. The day of Ali’s apparent death, Melissa was on the rampage for the teenage mean girl — not only because she had stolen the N.A.T. Club tapes, but because Ali was having an affair with Ian. Did Melissa’s hate for Ali eventually extend to the Liars — perhaps even to her own sister? We wouldn’t put anything past this Hastings…
