The Liars are arriving back in Rosewood in this sneak peek of Season 5, Episode 2 (“Whirly Girl”) of Pretty Little Liars, and Alison (Sasha Pieterse) is already ready to leave town. In the minute-long clip, we see a bus pull into a darkened Rosewood downtown. The Liars file off one-by-one, until Ali hesitates. She turns to get back on the bus, but Emily stops her.

“You don’t need to run anymore,” Emily tells her. “‘A’ is gone.” Em’s gentle words get Ali off the bus, but she still doesn’t seem totally convinced, so Spencer alludes to a convo the gals had, presumably off-screen: “Ali, look, we talked about this. You know it’s the right decision.”

A nervous Ali responds: “Maybe I should go home first. Speak to my mom.” Aaand the clip ends. (Is it Tuesday yet?)

This clip may be short, but it’s chock full of intriguing information. It sounds as if the Liars are planning on heading straight to the police station to tell the Rosewood P.D. everything? That would definitely be a change in character for our Liars, who tend to avoid the authorities at all costs, but we think it’s a smart idea. We also think it’s interesting that Ali wants to go chat with her mother first almost as if Mrs. DiLaurentis might have some objectives to the move which, given that Mrs. D. helped bury Ali alive, is fair enough, but is there more to it than that?

There’s also a lot of dramatic irony going on in this scene i.e. information the audience knows that the characters don’t. For example, the fact that Mrs. DiLaurentis has been murdered. Or the assumption that “A” is not really gone, as Emily so hopefully suggests. Poor, Liars. These characters can never catch a break.
