The murder of Mrs. DiLaurentis in the Pretty Little Liars Season 4 finale clued us in to the importance of Ali’s mom in the “A” game. In fact, we think her relevance may go far beyond her role as Ali’s mother. We think it may lie in another familial connection: her twin. Here are four clues that prove Mrs. DiLaurentis has an evil twin running around Rosewood.

Mrs. D.’s position on the Radley Board of Trustees. Radley has its secrets, and we think one of them might be the existence of Mrs. DiLaurentis’ twin. It would certainly explain both Mrs. D.’s and the rest of the Radley board’s resistance to Toby looking into his mother’s untimely death? Further down the twisty Rabbit Hole of TV Speculation, we wonder if Toby’s mom and Mrs. D.’s sister might be the same person. If Marion Cavanaugh was the person who attacked Ali that night, could Mrs. D. have arranged for her eventual “suicide” off the roof of Radley Sanitarium? Or, perhaps, they aren’t the same person and Mrs. D.’s twin killed Toby’s mom? Crazier things have happened in Rosewood.

The phone call the night of Ali’s attack. The Season 4 finale gave us some interesting information about the night of Ali’s almost-death and disappearance, and we’re not just talking about the fact that Mrs. D. was willing to protect whomever she thought killed her own daughter. Prior to the attack, Mrs. D. was on a frantic phone call concerning what we read as someone who had gone missing. Did Mrs. D.’s twin escape that night from Radley? Did she come after Ali as a way to get back at her own sister?

Ali’s story about one twin attacking another. The story Alison told on Halloween about one twin attacking another seemed to have some basis in truth. For a long time, we thought this was a clue that Ali herself had an evil twin, now we think this tale has more to do with the older generation. Pretty Little Liars the TV series has done a good job of balancing plot points from the book series with original twists. In the book, Ali is the one with a secret twin. We think the TV show may take the evil twin trope and apply it to another character: Mrs. DiLaurentis.

The DiLaurentis home’s decor. The DiLaurentis home is filled with twin imagery. In addition to the poster hanging in Ali’s room behind which Emily found Ali’s money, there is also a decorative plaque that reads (in French): “This is the double laugh, the double smile, and double the trouble if you’re blessed with twins.” Again, though we have always assumed this was a reference to Ali’s own twin, now we think it might be a reference to Mrs. D.’s. If Ali knew about her aunt, isn’t this exactly the sort of thing she would do to antagonize and emotionally manipulate her mother: hang reminders of the twin she has locked away?

Do you think Mrs. DiLaurentis has a twin? Why or why not? If so, what are some of the clues the show has dropped? Sound off in the comments below!
