As Spencer (Troian Bellisario) says in the Pretty Little Liars Season 5, Episode 3 promo, "Crazy around [Rosewood] works on a sliding scale." This is not a normal town; murder and mayhem are par for the course. But even in the heightened world of Rosewood, there are some things that make us stop and say Hold on a second...
Sometimes it's something that doesn't make sense from the writers, and (more often) it's just that we want to reach through our TVs and smack the characters upside the head for making bad choices. Here are our picks for the biggest logic fails and WTF moments from Season 5, Episode 2 ("Whirly Girlie").
Ali's big lie. Really, Alison (Sasha Pieterse)? You're going to go with kidnapping as your lie? That seems like a hard story to pull off, and we thought Ali was smarter than that. Though perhaps this is a sign that Ali really did come up with this lie off the cuff to protect Aria (Lucy Hale) — we have to believe that the girl who managed to disappear for two years could come up with a better cover if she had time to think about it.
Um, we're pretty sure Holbrook is a better cop than that. Unlike basically every other cop in the history of Rosewood, Holbrook actually seems to know what he's doing, which is why Alison’s interrogation scene came off as weird to us. No way does the cop we've gotten to know over the last season not question each Liar individually! Though we're willing to give Holbrook (and the writers) the benefit of the doubt here: maybe he decided it would be too tough on the girls to question them all that night, and is planning to do so in the future. We just can't see this guy buying Ali's story.
Just shout about all those lies, why don't you? Spencer (Troian Bellisario) and Emily (Shay Mitchell) not only talked about their big lie while outside, they practically shouted about it. Have they not learned that there are ears everywhere in Rosewood?
Um, what season is it? It must be very unseasonably warm in Rosewood, because if Halloween was over a month ago, everyone should be bundled up in winter jackets by now.
