Things just got real in the ever-growing web of lies that is Ali’s (Sasha Pieterse) explanation for the past two years. In this sneak peek for Season 5, Episode 4 (“Thrown From the Ride”) of Pretty Little Liars, Mr. DiLaurentis tries to convince his daughter to go to the medical exam the Rosewood P.D. are requiring for her case. How does Ali respond?
Sasha is owning this season of PLL, as she plays the many nuances of a broken, but calculating teen returned from the dead. In this particular clip, we find Ali in her bedroom, texting Emily: “Can you please call me back?” Interesting...it seems that something has caused a rift between the two. Alison signs the text with an “A” before realizing that is the most awkward thing ever and changes it to Alison. Doesn’t she know she doesn’t have to sign a text at all?
Ali’s dad enters, telling Ali: “I got another call from Detective Holbrook today. They need for you to come in for that medical exam.” Ali asks him what he told Holbrook. “I was able to postpone it before because of your mom, but we can’t put it off forever,” Mr. D. responds. “I know it’s difficult, but it’s important and I’m gonna be right there on the other side of that door.”
Ali breaks down, pleading with her father: “Dad, I don’t want to go. Dad, please don’t make me.”
Mr. DiLaurentis seems desperate to make his daughter happy, but he also wants to do what’s best for her — and, in the world of Ali’s lie, that means a medical exam: “Sweetheart, I’m sorry,” he tells her. “I haven’t wanted to push you to talk, but if you were...hurt, you need to tell someone.” We’re starting to feel really bad for Mr. D. He is totally in the dark about Ali’s disappearance, and is doing it all alone with the unexpected murder of his wife. We doubt there’s a chapter for this in the How to Be A Good Parent Handbook.
