Ella Montgomery (Holly Marie Combs) is back from Europe in the latest episode of Pretty Little Liars, and she’s looking for Aria (Lucy Hale) to be the maid of honor at her upcoming nuptials. Sounds great, right? If only Aria didn’t have about a million-and-a-half other things on her plate. Check out this sneak peek from Season 5, Episode 8 (“Scream For Me”).
In the preview clip, Ella runs into Aria outside of Rosewood High. Ella is there to drop off invitations to her upcoming engagement party on Saturday. (She was a teacher at the school remember?) Aria, on the other hand, is either (at worst) making a break from school or (at best) skipping out on class to take a call from Ezra. Either way, this conversation gets off to an awkward start.
“What are you doing outside?” Ella asks, trying not to seem to judgy given that she abandoned her struggling daughter for a jaunt in Europe with The Muffin Man. But, bygones, amirite?
Aria’s quick-thinking excuse? “Oh, I had to leave a message for dad. I think I left a book in his car.” Awkwardness continues to ensue until Ella asks Aria to be her maid of honor, which is kind of an amazing moment. Aria immediately accepts, seemingly overjoyed to do it. Hugs ensue!
Unfortunately, the moment is short-lived. Ella has already booked them an appointment that afternoon at the bridal shop, but Aria is scheduled to volunteer at Radley. “Can another volunteer cover your shift?” Ella asks, but Aria is already a million miles away, seeing that Ezra is calling on her cell.
“Sound like fun,” Aria says, as she makes a break for it back into the school, “but I’m gonna run ahead to class. Can we figure this out later?” We have a feeling this is not going to end well. Maybe Ella should have asked Ashley Marin?
